Terms of Use
Effective 3 November 2026
The short version
- passvault is beta software, provided as is. It may change, break or be discontinued.
- You hold the keys. We can't see, reset or recover your vault, so keep your recovery key safe and save backups.
- Use it lawfully, and don't try to harm the service or other people.
passvault is a product of P Tech (ptechnology.org). These terms apply to the passvault app, the passvault website and sign-up page, and the passvault command-line tool (together, "passvault"). By using passvault or signing up for the beta, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use passvault. Questions? Email hello@ptechnology.org.
1. The beta
passvault is in beta. Features may change, be removed or stop working, and we may end the beta or limit who can take part at any time. Access to the beta is by invitation, and we may add or remove testers at our discretion.
2. Your responsibilities
- Keep your recovery key safe. passvault is built so that nobody but you can open your vault. That means we can't reset your recovery key or recover your data. If you lose your recovery key and access to all your passkeys, your vault can't be opened.
- Keep backups. Save a backup of your vault from time to time (in the app: Sync → Save a backup file), especially during the beta.
- Protect your accounts and devices. You're responsible for your Google account (we recommend Google 2-Step Verification) and for keeping your devices secure.
- Your content is yours. You keep all rights to what you store in passvault. You're responsible for it and for having the right to store it.
3. Acceptable use
Don't use passvault to break the law, to store or share content you have no right to, or to harm others. Don't try to disrupt or overload the website, get around its security, or access other people's data.
4. Google services
passvault stores your encrypted vault in your Google Drive and uses Google sign-in. Your use of Google services is also governed by Google's terms and policies. Google's storage limits, availability and any changes it makes are outside our control.
5. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what information we handle and how. In short, we can't read your vault.
6. Feedback
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them to improve passvault without any obligation to you.
7. No warranty
passvault is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure. This matters especially for beta software: don't rely on passvault as the only copy of important information.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, access, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of, or inability to use, passvault. This includes losing access to your vault because a recovery key or passkey was lost. Where liability can't be excluded, it's limited to the amount you paid us to use passvault, which during the beta is zero. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under laws that can't be waived.
9. Ending your use
You can stop using passvault at any time. To remove your data, see "Deleting your data" in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or end your beta access if you break these terms or if we end the beta. Your vault in your Google Drive stays yours either way, and it opens with your recovery key and the passvault command-line tool.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for important changes we'll tell beta testers by email or in the app. If you keep using passvault after a change, you accept the updated terms.
